02/19/2019 – For drill this evening, Lafayette members were given two presentations by local firefighters. The first session was a review of building construction. This is critically important information for firefighters to be able to better understand fire behavior in different types of buildings. All five building types were identified. Each one was broken down into their respective characteristics and hazards to firefighters. This program was produced and presented by Lafayette Fireman, Brett Fassnacht.
The second session was a presentation on PTSD and first responder suicide. First responder suicide awareness is on the rise. The current numbers indicate we are losing more people to suicide than line of duty deaths. The only way to combat these numbers is to raise awareness among our people. This program was produced and presented by Fireman, Ryan Gardill, of Fire Department Mount Joy.
We are very grateful both of these gentleman took the time to present to our members these two very important topics!
