The LFC volunteers were kept busy yesterday afternoon with four calls for service. The day crew handled the first two runs. At 13:07 hours the company was alerted for an odor of smoke inside the Wells Fargo Bank in Bridgeport. Engine 63-1 and Truck 63 made the response with 9 firefighters. Crews traced the odor back to some overheated battery packs in storage area. At 14:05 hours, the engine and truck were back on the street for a fire alarm at a local hotel on “The Strip” (Lincoln Hwy between Oakview Road and Rt 896). That alarm was false due to service technicians working on the system.
At 19:43, Company 63, 62 (Witmer), 54 (Lampeter), and 48 (Ronks) were dispatched for a detached garage fire in the 100 block of Clover Heights Road. First-in units found smoke showing from a single story garage being used as a wood shop. Crews located a small smoldering fire in the bagger of a saw that had been recently used. There was minimal extension and the assignment was scaled back shortly after arrival.
The final run of the day came in a 23:26. An investigation was dispatched on Summers Drive in Eastwood Village. LFC crews investigated an activated smoke detector but found no problems at the address.
