This morning crews staffing Engine 63-2, Squad 63-1 and Foam 63 attended a training exercise as part of the Lancaster County Foam Task Force 36. This regional exercise was conducted as part of the South Central Terrorism Task Force which covers 7 counties in central Pennsylvania. The drill site was the former Gulf Petroleum Terminal on Paxton St. in Harrisburg. Crews from Lancaster, Dauphin and Cumberland Counties brought their foam apparatus to the site. The first order of business was a walk-through of the facility so crews could see how a petroleum station works. Then an equipment show-and-tell and finally a practical evolution. During the practical evolution it was simulated that a storage tank was struck by lightening and had a full surface fire. Crews worked together to develop an incident action plan for exposure protection and extinguishment then worked together to accomplish both.
