A few days ago, the LFC received a request from Lancaster EMS to do a smoke detector install at a residence on Conestoga Boulevard in Lancaster Township. Lancaster EMS had recently been at the home on a welfare check of an elderly patient that lives there and noticed she had no working smoke detectors.
Firefighters Brandon Groff and Riley Weaver took Squad 63-2 to the home today to do the install work. As our members approached the house, they could hear someone yelling for help from the inside. FF Groff was able to look inside a window and saw the resident laying on the floor. As this was happening, Lancaster County-Wide Communications was receiving a medical alarm for the same location and was dispatching a BLS to respond.
Firefighters Groff and Weaver were able to obtain lock box information from the patient, gained access, and provided care until EMS arrived. Thankfully, the patient’s condition was not serious and she did not have to be transported to the hospital.
A total of six smoke detectors were installed in the home and Firefighters Groff and Weaver returned after making sure the resident was taken care of. Well done, gentlemen!
