Just prior to 2pm, LCWC dispatched Stations 63 (Lafayette) and 62 (Witmer) to the 2100 block of Lincoln Highway East for a tractor-trailer on fire.
Additional information reported a smoldering fire in a load of hay bales on the back of an eastbound truck.
Engine 63-1 arrived and deployed a 1 3/4” attack line to start extinguishing the burning hay on the surface. Engine 62-2 arrived to provide a water supply and extra manpower.
The decision was made shortly into the incident to move the truck and fire apparatus off the highway. The units picked up and moved the scene to the old Perkins Restaurant parking lot which is currently vacant.
Once in the lot, a local farmer brought over his forklift and assisted our crews with the removal of one bale of hay so crews could get access to the deep-seated fire.
Once a majority of the burning hay was doused by 63 and 62 members, the truck driver requested to continue on his way to get to his destination near Avondale where he would unload and fully extinguish any remaining hay.
We did get a report from the Avondale FD that they assisted with final extinguishment later this evening.
