At 11:36 hours, Station 63, 62 (Witmer) 48 (Ronks), and 6 (Lancaster EMS) were dispatched for a vehicle accident with entrapment in the 1600 block of Lincoln Highway East in Bridgeport. Engine 63-1 arrived first and confirmed a two vehicle crash with rollover, two people trapped and three people with injuries. Engine 63-1’s crew immediately went to work stabilizing the vehicle to prepare for extrication while EMS began patient care. Engine 62-1 arrived and placed a suppression line on stand-by and then assisted Engine 63-1’s crew with beginning the extrication. Rescue 48 arrived within a matter of minutes and joined in the extrication with their hydraulic tools and then assisted with patient removal. Crews from all agencies worked together seamlessly to get the injured to the hospital as quickly as possible. Lincoln Highway Eastbound was closed for the duration of the extrication. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
On a side note, this was the very first run for Witmer’s new pumper. The 2019 Pierce Enforcer engine had just been placed in service the night prior to this incident.
