Just after 0100 Friday morning, Engine 63-1 and Truck 63 were dispatched as part of the 2nd and 3rd alarm assignment to 622 Wyncroft Lane in Lancaster Township for an apartment building. First arriving companies found a fast moving fire in a multi-family occupancy with fire extending through multiple void spaces throughout the structure. Truck 63 was ordered to the rear of the building with Truck 67 (Rohrerstown) and Truck 50 (Willow Street). Engine 63-1 was ordered to lay in from a secondary hydrant and supply the units operating in the back with water.
Truck 63’s crew placed ground ladders and then was directed to the roof to assist Truck 204 with a trench cut and to keep the fire from jumping the fire wall. Engine 63-1’s crew worked on getting a supply line to Truck 67 for master stream operations. Their crew then stood-by until being rotated in with the crews on the roof.
Due to rapidly deteriorating conditions early on, the decision was made to go into a defensive mode. Interior crews were pulled out and the ladder companies used their master streams to knock down the bulk of the fire.
Engine 63-1 and Truck 63 operated on the scene for several hours before being released. Companies returned back to quarters around 0800 hours.
