LFC Receives Distinguished Unit Award from the Lancaster County Fireman’s Association
On June 5th, the Lancaster County Firemen’s Association recognized the Lafayette Fire Company with a Distinguished Unit Award for actions taking during a farm rescue that occurred the previous year.
On June 15th 2020, the LFC was dispatched with mutual aid units to the 2000 block of Millstream Road for a farm rescue. Medic 06-1 arrived first and found a farm tractor overturned in a tributary several hundred feet from the roadway. The driver was pinned by the tractor with his mouth and nose barely above the surface of the water.
Crews from Lafayette, Witmer, Ronks, and Willow Street worked to first stabilize the tractor and then slowly lifted the vehicle with hydraulic tools while EMS monitored the patient’s condition. Crews were able to free the patient in a matter of minutes. He was then packaged for transport taken to the local trauma center. Fire department focus then moved to spill control as motor fluids had leaked onto the ground and in the water.
Thankfully the patient was able to walk out of the hospital within 48 hours with minor injuries.
The LFC would like to congratulate our fellow companies whom were also recognized by the LCFA and say thank you to the assisting agencies that helped us on that day.
